Ripple Expands Partnership with BBVA to Enhance Crypto Services
Ripple, a leading provider of digital asset infrastructure tailored for financial institutions, has announced the strengthening of its collaboration with BBVA, a prominent Spanish bank. This partnership enables BBVA to utilize Ripple’s advanced digital asset custody solutions to bolster its cryptocurrency trading services. The move underscores a growing demand for secure and compliant digital asset infrastructures in the financial sector.
Ripple Custody Technology Supports BBVA’s Cryptocurrency Trading
Ripple has established itself as a vital player in the financial sector by offering a secure and regulated digital asset infrastructure, which is essential for financial institutions looking to store, exchange, and transfer digital assets. Through this collaboration, BBVA will implement Ripple’s digital asset custody technology to enhance its recently launched cryptocurrency trading and custody services for Bitcoin and Ethereum, made available to all adult retail clients in Spain.
In line with their agreement, BBVA will leverage Ripple’s institutional-grade, non-custodial infrastructure to facilitate a fast and secure custody solution for tokenized assets, including cryptocurrencies. This partnership not only provides secure custody services for investors in Spain but also fosters the growth and utility of BBVA’s digital asset ecosystem. By joining forces with Ripple, BBVA aims to enhance its capabilities in the cryptocurrency custody market and strengthen its technological framework.
Long-Term Collaboration with Significant Growth Potential
The partnership between Ripple and BBVA marks the continuation of a long-term collaboration, with Ripple having already provided its custody technology to BBVA’s branches in Switzerland and Turkey since October 2024. By the year 2030, the volume of virtual assets under custody is projected to soar to $16 trillion, with tokenized assets expected to represent 10% of the global GDP. This highlights the crucial role of custody solutions in the digital asset landscape, facilitating various applications such as stablecoin issuance, asset management, and tokenization.
With the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation across the European Union, banks in the region are increasingly motivated to introduce cryptocurrency products that cater to client demand. BBVA, a significant player in the banking industry, is reinforcing its commitment to secure and regulated cryptocurrency technology through this partnership with Ripple. The Ripple Custody technology provides an enterprise-grade architecture for digital asset custodians, cryptocurrency exchanges, and over-the-counter (OTC) trading desks, ensuring the secure storage, management, and accessibility of crypto assets while adhering to high-security standards.
The insights from this partnership reveal that Ripple’s custody infrastructure enables financial institutions like BBVA to effectively meet the growing client demand for cryptocurrencies and virtual assets while maintaining compliance with rigorous regulatory, operational, and security requirements.
