Decentraland has officially announced the return of its much-anticipated annual Art Week, scheduled to take place from September 24 to September 27, 2025. This year’s theme, “TOUCH GRASS,” promises to transform Decentraland into a vibrant hub of creativity, featuring installations, workshops, and activities led by more than thirty prominent artists. The festival aims to delve into the complexities of digital life and our roles as humans within the evolving landscape of virtual worlds.

Festival Overview

“Decentraland Art Week demonstrates how artists are utilizing virtual realms as a significant extension of their creative practices while encouraging newcomers to take their initial steps into this space. The lineup for this year, which includes renowned artists such as Sara Shakeel and Johanna Jaskowska, emphasizes the importance of this artistic transition,” stated Bay Backner, the Head Producer of Art Week at the Decentraland Foundation. “With the curatorial theme of TOUCH GRASS, this festival reimagines the potential of digital art to enrich our lives in a future that feels both human-centric and idealistic.”

Key Programming Features

The 2025 Decentraland Art Week invites attendees to engage in a comprehensive exploration of creating in three-dimensional environments. In addition to large-scale immersive installations, the event includes programming designed to educate and empower creators at all skill levels. The first day will focus on possibilities in virtual worlds and how to start creating within Decentraland. The second day will address how artists can achieve recognition and get selected for both virtual and mixed-reality exhibitions. The third day will spotlight artificial intelligence, featuring partners like CSM, ImagineArt, and Sloyd, who will showcase how anyone can utilize new tools to craft 3D, game-ready artworks. The festival will conclude on the fourth day with a summary of essential workshops and a celebratory party.

Collaboration with Digital Fashion Week

In preparation for Art Week, Decentraland has teamed up with Digital Fashion Week (DFW) to present the future of virtual exhibitions. On September 11 in New York and September 18 in London, attendees will have the opportunity to experience activations that blend real-life and online elements, featuring an “inside-out” runway, projection-mapped showrooms, and interactive photo booths. Visitors can also try on new fashion designs for Decentraland by creators such as Loreine Studio, Emilija Slavkova, Stephen Vineburg, and Right Direction. These innovative designs will carry over into the Decentraland Art Week, transforming into an immersive showroom featuring exclusive avatar Wearable giveaways.

Immersive Art Installations

More than 30 large-scale installations will be featured across Decentraland, with many revitalizing underutilized spaces into cultural landmarks. Some of these works will remain accessible for at least a year, prolonging their impact beyond the festival. Highlights include: Sara Shakeel’s The Forgotten Sense, which presents a sparkling digital environment in her distinct style, reflecting on the loss of touch and warmth; Johanna Jaskowska’s Synthetic Rest, a serene yet uncanny space that engages with themes of intimacy in the context of technology; Amber Vittoria’s Where Her Thoughts Can Land, an imaginative landscape filled with monumental sculptures that explore femininity; Clara Bacou’s Bloomfang, which introduces a mythical creature born from neglected gardens; and Micah Alhadeff’s BloomSynth, envisioning a future artifact amidst a desert landscape. Art Week will unfold from September 24 to 27 within Decentraland. Participants can prepare by downloading the Decentraland platform to their desktops, where they can log in, customize their avatars, and begin their exploration of Art Week.
