Decentraland to Host Annual Art Week with Engaging Theme
Decentraland has officially announced the return of its much-anticipated annual Art Week, set to take place from September 24 to 27, 2025, themed “TOUCH GRASS.” This free four-day event will transform Decentraland into a vibrant showcase of installations, workshops, and interactive experiences featuring over thirty prominent artists. Each artistic creation is designed to penetrate the distractions of digital life, delving into the future of virtual environments and our human role within them. Bay Backner, the Head Producer of Art Week at the Decentraland Foundation, emphasized that the event highlights how artists are increasingly recognizing virtual worlds as a vital extension of their artistic practices, inviting others to embark on this creative journey. The theme “TOUCH GRASS” aims to reimagine the potential of digital art to enrich our lives in a future that is both humane and utopian.
Exciting Programming Features for Attendees
Art Week 2025 will guide attendees through the creative process of working within three-dimensional spaces. The festival will include large-scale immersive installations along with educational programming designed to empower creators of all skill levels. The first day will focus on the possibilities in virtual realms and provide insights on how to start creating in Decentraland. The second day will emphasize methods for artists to gain visibility and be chosen for virtual and mixed-reality exhibitions. The third day will explore the role of artificial intelligence, with partnerships from CSM, ImagineArt, and Sloyd showcasing how accessible tools can enable anyone to produce 3D artworks suitable for gaming. The final day will feature a summary of essential workshops and a celebratory party marking the conclusion of the festival.
Collaboration with Digital Fashion Week
In anticipation of Art Week, Decentraland is teaming up with Digital Fashion Week (DFW) to present a glimpse into the future of virtual exhibitions. Events will take place on September 11 in New York at Shift Midtown and September 18 in London at Epic Games, featuring activations that blend real life and online interactions. Attendees can look forward to an “inside-out” runway, projection-mapped showrooms, and interactive photobooths where they can try out new fashion designs from Decentraland, created by Loreine Studio, Emilija Slavkova, Stephen Vineburg, and Right Direction. These innovative designs will continue to be featured in Decentraland Art Week as part of an immersive showroom experience, complete with exclusive giveaways of avatar Wearables.
Noteworthy Immersive Installations
More than 30 large-scale installations will be showcased across Decentraland, transforming neglected spaces into cultural hubs. Several pieces will remain on display for at least a year, ensuring their lasting impact. Notable installations include:
Sara Shakeel’s The Forgotten Sense, which presents a glittering digital environment that reflects on lost human connections such as touch and warmth.
Johanna Jaskowska’s Synthetic Rest, which invites visitors into an eerie yet tranquil space that examines the intersection of technology and intimacy.
Amber Vittoria’s Where Her Thoughts Can Land, a vibrant exploration of femininity presented through monumental sculptures that encourage playful engagement.
Clara Bacou’s Bloomfang, showcasing a mythical creature emerging from neglected gardens, serves as a whimsical challenge to sterile digital aesthetics.
Micah Alhadeff’s BloomSynth, which evokes a narrative of memory and myth in a desolate landscape where past and future converge.
Art Week is scheduled for September 24–27 within Decentraland. To get ready for the event, participants can download Decentraland on their desktop, log in, customize their avatars, and begin their exploration of Art Week. Detailed schedules and installation information are readily available.
